Polysorbate 80
Description
Polysorbate 80 is known under the trade name Tween – 80. It is a polysorbate, monooleate, nonionic surfactant, chemically obtained from sorbitol and olive oil fatty acids. Polysorbate 80 allows you to create complex formulations from ingredients that do not mix in nature in one recipe formula, as well as obtain high-quality emulsions with a uniform, beautiful texture.
Polysorbate 80 is a liquid substance, oily and slightly viscous. The color of the substance can range from light yellow to bright amber. The smell is not strong, but characteristic.
Characteristics of polysorbate 80:
- stabilizer and solubilizer for fatty oils;
- emulsifier for oil-in-water emulsions;
- lubricant (lubricant that improves gliding on the skin);
- antistatic and conditioner;
- skin soothing and moisturizing product;
- gives smoothness and elasticity to the skin;
- hair growth stimulator and hair loss remedy;
- foaming agent (for products with high acidity);
- does not disturb the hydro-lipid and pH balance;
- dispersing agent.
Application of polysorbate 80:
- skin and hair care products (creams, lotions, tonics, milks, shampoos, balms, conditioners, foams, masks);
- bath and shower products (gels, body scrubs, bombs);
- alcohol-free deodorants;
- personal hygiene products;
- air fresheners.
Mode of application:
- recommended input percentage is 1-10%, up to 50% is possible;
- when adding at least 1% polysorbate 80, it begins to thicken the emulsion;
- it is possible to combine different polysorbates in one product;
Polysorbate 80 is the strongest emulsifier among polysorbates and can be used for formulations that require the addition of a large number of different oils or “heavy” vegetable oils. It dissolves well in isopropyl and ethyl alcohol, benzene. Insoluble in mineral oils.
Polysorbate 80 is safe.
