Liquid Absorption Base (LAB)
Description
Liquid absorption base
Multisterol base – a mixture of lanolin alcohol, liquid petroleum oil and octyldodecanol
Composition and description
LAB is a liquid mixture of lanolin alcohols in low-viscosity paraffin oil that is separated by cooling and filtering the components that precipitate.
Peculiarities
LAB is a pharmaceutical grade lanolin alcohol that is easily processed in liquid form. It is transparent, almost colorless and odorless, quickly absorbed into the stratum corneum and has strong emulsifying and moisturizing properties. It is a surfactant, nonionic W/O emulsifier that produces emulsions that tolerate a wide pH range and high electrolyte concentrations.
Application
LAB’s solubility and clarity are especially desirable in non-aqueous liquid skin and hair products such as bath oils, baby oils, sunscreens, and liquid brillinine. LAB is also particularly useful as a co-emulsifier that can form O/W and W/M creams such as cleansers and moisturizers. It also gives a beautiful and smooth texture for pigmented makeup looks.
Dermatological studies
Tests performed with 100% substance in accordance with FDA criteria showed no eye irritation. No adverse reactions have been observed in humans during the production or use of the product for more than 25 years. Acute oral toxicity tests in rats showed an LD50 that was higher than the maximum administered dose of 16 ml/kg for acetylated lanolin alcohols.
Features of application
LAB has low viscosity and is therefore easy to handle. Turbidity or sediment that may form after storage at lower temperatures can be easily removed by heating and stirring.
