Functions of HPMC in cosmetics:
- A thickener can increase the viscosity of a product without affecting its other properties. Thickens ethanol, isopropanol, acetone, butyl diglycol and other solvents. Can be used in the production of antiseptic hand gels, nail polish removers and other cosmetics and household chemicals containing solvents.
- Emulsifier, helps to mix oil and water based ingredients.
- Stabilizer, helps prevent ingredients from separating or breaking down over time.
- Film former, helps create a protective barrier on the skin.
- A suspending agent helps keep the ingredients in a suspended state in a product.
