Fatty Acids Unbleached
Description
Bleached and unbleached fatty acids – wool fatty acids
Composition and description
Lanolin fatty acids are obtained by hydrolysis of lanolin, a natural, renewable raw material obtained by cleaning (washing) raw wool. It is a very complex mixture of fatty acids, consisting of approximately 40% by weight, straight chain acids, 20% branched chain acids and approximately 40% hydroxy acids. Most of the fatty acid mixture is saturated with long carbon chains between C8 and C40.
Peculiarities
Lanolin fatty acids are a by-product of the production of lanolin alcohol – making it a cost-effective product. This unique product is yellow-cream in color and has the consistency of soft wax. His soaps have emulsifying properties. In emulsions, imperfect solubility of soap does not pose any problem.
Application
Lanolin fatty acids are mainly used in technical products such as anti-corrosion agents, lubricants, liquid and semi-solid polishes, and textile additives.
They are not typically used in their natural form in cosmetic products, but rather as neutralized soaps in products such as M/W creams and shaving creams. LANOLIN FATTY ACIDS (clarified) make the texture of the cream smooth and provide a softening function. This product is also a useful starting material for lanolin esters such as isopropyl lanolate, glyceryl lanolate and methyl lanolate.
Dermatological studies
In over 50 years of using lanolin fatty acids in soap form, there have been no reports of adverse reactions and the products have been found to be non-toxic and safe. However, it is not recommended to use free acids in their 100% form on the skin.
Features of application
Lanolin fatty acids melt relatively easily and are compatible with other fatty acid oils, fats and waxes. This product should not be stored at high temperature for a long time, otherwise the acid value may be significantly reduced due to the formation of lactone. These products should be stored in closed containers in a cool place.
