Base SE
Description
O/W ointment base.
Blend of PEG-30 Lanolin, cetearyl alcohol and liquid petroleum oil
Composition and description
Base SE is a pale yellow, lustrous, oily O/W ointment base consisting of a well-balanced combination of ethoxylated lanolin derivatives with cetostearyl alcohol and paraffin oil. Base SE is extremely hydrophilic and after adding water it produces a stable, non-ionic O/W emulsion. Each batch is strictly controlled to ensure consistent emulsion viscosity. Base SE has a slight characteristic odor.
Peculiarities
Base SE is the pioneer of a new generation of self-emulsifying bases for cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Not only is it an emulsifying wax, but it also contains all the necessary ingredients for a multi-purpose cream: emulsifiers, plasticizers and reflective lubricants. In addition, the consistency of emulsions prepared using Base SE can be easily adjusted between solid ointment and liquid lotion by simply changing the water content
Application
Base SE is a multi-purpose cream base for a wide range of cosmetic products including hair and skin creams, etc. It is compatible with most cosmetic ingredients, even oxidizers such as those used in hair curling products. In compact powders, Base SE is a hydrophobic binder that makes it easier to use the sponge on damp skin. It can be used as a unique, liquid, waterless skin cleanser. Base SE is used as an excellent carrier for therapeutic active substances.
Dermatological studies
Base SE contains only ingredients considered dermatologically safe. In over 20 years of production and use, no skin irritation has been reported. Acute oral toxicity tests reflect extremely low toxicity.
Features of application
To prepare O/W emulsions, hot water is added to Base SE with stirring until it melts and a dispersion is obtained. The mixture is then cooled below 40°C. Homogenization is not always necessary, but is recommended when a white liquid emulsion is desired. When processing large quantities, it is recommended to melt the Base SE first. Lipophilic additives must be melted together with Base SE before adding water. Base SE should be stored refrigerated. If the remainder of the melt is not used, it should be stirred thoroughly before reuse. Base SE base has a shelf life under normal storage conditions of at least 2 years.
